Prema Monteiro
Professor Monteiro is a dedicated educator with an enthusiasm for culinary arts and hospitality management. She has been a faculty member at the 国产AV since Fall 2012 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her classroom and students. She holds an Ed. S from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a Master of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism from the same institution. She also earned the Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) certification from the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.
Before joining UNA, she successfully launched the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs at J F Drake State Technical College in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2007. Her teaching experience includes various culinary arts, hospitality, and events management courses. She also taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stout from 2000 to 2007. She is well-versed in delivering online, hybrid, and traditional courses, adapting her teaching style to meet the diverse needs of her students.
With more than 11 years of international work experience in both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house roles within the hospitality industry, Professor Monteiro combines practical insights with academic knowledge to enrich her students' learning experiences.
Professor Monteiro is a certified proctor for the nationally recognized ServSafe certification. She has reviewed numerous hospitality and culinary textbooks and serves on two-year college and high school advisory boards. She led students on a unique study abroad course in Peru. She recently contributed the chapter on Desserts to the book, “A Traveler’s Palate: A Collaboration of the 国产AV’s Students in Culinary Arts, Photography, and Technical Writing.” She completed the Quality Matters Peer Review certification and regularly serves as a subject matter expert on Quality Matters Peer Review committees for online courses offered at various institutions nationwide. Quality Matters is the leading global organization providing quality assurance for online courses and innovative digital teaching and learning environments.
Outside academia, Professor Monteiro enjoys staying connected with family and friends, keeping up with current events, and experimenting to standardize recipes.
